Why are you seeking this office?

I’m running for Lakewood City Council because I believe that it matters — it matter to my friends and neighbors who are deeply concerned about the future of our City. I’m running because the issues of today have significant impacts that will affect us all well into the future. Now is the time for people of goodwill to unite in a spirit of cooperation to find common sense solutions and build a stronger Lakewood together.

What makes you the best person for the job?

I am committed to serving others. As a minister, a mediator and a facilitator, I am committed to finding common ground from which to identify comprehensive solutions to complex problems. My experience in the nonprofit sector has allowed me to work with a vastly diverse populations leading local, regional and statewide community planning groups. I know that in each challenge there is opportunity. These leadership qualities are sorely needed as we move Lakewood forward.

What are your top three priorities if elected?

Moving Lakewood beyond 200 is imperative. The distal impacts to economic development, low income housing, and sales tax revenue impacts our collective future. We must find solutions. I am committed to strengthening the safety net for our most vulnerable neighbors … senior citizens, disabled veterans, and those with disabilities. Strong neighborhoods build strong communities and strong communities make for a stronger Lakewood. I am committed to strengthening our bonds as friends and neighbors.

How should the city implement the
citizen-approved growth ordinance?

Fostering an atmosphere of trust and accountability must be at the heart of implementation. Unintended consequences and unexpected challenges are inevitable. As we navigate these challenges, it is paramount that the express will of the voters be respected. Ongoing citizen involvement and an atmosphere of openness and transparency will create a climate in which to mitigate the distal impacts while strengthening our collective commitment to smart growth and ethical development.

How much do you foresee yourself working with the other members of council?

I will be a collaborative partner, working in good faith on behalf of the citizens of Lakewood and the people of Ward 4. I will work toward a shared vision of a stronger Lakewood by cultivating positive relationships based on respect while honoring diversity of thought and experience. I am committed to the idea that we don’t have to agree on everything to work together. I will conduct myself with dignity and honor.
